Polishing your car: the steps to follow
1 – Gather the necessary materials
Before starting to polish your car, you need to answer two questions.
The first: work by hand or with a tool?
Car polishing can be done by hand with simple soft cloths (chamois, microfiber or cotton), but it is a very long and tiring process that yields mediocre results.
The orbital/random orbital polisher is a more expensive alternative, but faster and simpler, which can also be used for other types of bodywork jobs and yields superior results.
The second: which polishing product to use?
The market offers a wide range of car polishes, ranging from polishes and waxes that help make an already excellent bodywork shine to abrasive compounds designed for more damaged surfaces. 2 – Wash the car
To polish your car, you must first ensure that the bodywork is clean.
Park the car in the shade and allow the bodywork surface to cool to prevent the soapy water from evaporating on its own before rinsing.
Fill the bucket with water and add the car soap in the proportions indicated on the package.
Dip the sponge in the bucket and spread the soapy water over the surface with circular movements, starting from the horizontal surfaces and then moving to the vertical ones from top to bottom.
Rinse everything with plenty of water.
3 – Polish the car
Use paper rolls to mask off areas you don't want to work on and cover the gaps between bodywork sections.
Apply the polishing product to the bodywork.
Distribute the polishing product evenly and completely with circular movements using the orbital/random orbital polisher or a soft cloth until it has been completely absorbed.
Depending on the condition of the bodywork, this process should be repeated according to the various steps with more aggressive abrasive compounds and then finished with a polish, or in a single pass directly with finishing polish.
Repeat the operation until you achieve the desired result and then move on to the next bodywork section.
